London studio and office space complex, Tileyard London, has launched a new area of spaces dedicated to musicians and creatives called Tileyard X.

Within Tileyard X – or TYX for short – are 12 new spaces catering to a range of music and content-creating needs, including music recording, mixing, mastering, plus video and podcast production.

TYX boasts a new Dolby Atmos spatial audio studio, seven music production suites, a vocal booth, a photography studio, multicast room and, according to Tileyard London, an ‘influencer room’ that’s primed for creating social media-focussed content.

Aside from purely production-based spaces, for artists looking to share ideas, write music or quietly work, TYX includes access to meeting rooms and breakout spaces.

Users of Tileyard X already include Peter Capaldi, Ella Eyre and Pixie Lott. These artists join the host of musicians and music companies based in Tileyard London, such as Apple Music 1, Noel Gallagher, The Prodigy, 8Bars, Pioneer DJ, Believe Digital, SoundCloud and Spitfire Audio.

The managing director of TYX, Jack Freegardhas says: “Tileyard’s mission has always been to curate a community of like-minded creatives and TYX is a natural extension of that. Our aim is to provide the best space and tools to create content, while fostering an environment of collaboration.”

In other news, Tileyard has also recently announced the launch of Tileyard North, a new set of modern offices, workspaces and studios set to launch in Autumn 2022 in Wakefield, Yorkshire. The spaces will “bridge the gap between north and south creative industries”, says Tileyard.

“There is a huge amount of talent in the north, but there’s nothing like Tileyard out of London, so this is the perfect opportunity to bring all that talent together in a central place where they can work together and collaborate,” says Tileyard co-founder Paul Kempe.

How Ye? Exploring the “Homeless” Controversy That Is the Latest YZY GAP Drop

Source: http://fashionbombdaily.com/how-ye-exploring-the-homeless-controversy-that-is-the-latest-yzy-gap-drop/

When it comes to fashion, Mr. West has had quite the journey. From his namesake label in the early 2010s to the launch of YEEZY SZN, Ye’s been decorating the fashion industry with his unique designs and skillful eye. Lately, however, his innovativeness seems to come with an added side of controversary free of charge.

On August 12th, the rapper/designer took a brief hiatus from his social media hiatus to share his ultimate inspiration. Ruining his Instagram streak of 0 posts in however long, Ye shared a screenshot of a Notes app message stating: “Look to the children / Look to the homeless / As the biggest inspiration for all design”

Damm Kanye finally admits he wanted us to dress like homeless people in yeezy season 3 pic.twitter.com/c3WGNbGnQd

— Areg Canas (@AreganoCanas) August 12, 2022

An incredibly odd statement to make when you consider the state of homelessness juxtaposed with clothing that isn’t available for the homeless or even affordable for lower-income individuals, but I digress. This line of thinking, like most of Ye’s thoughts these days, was immediately met with backlash. Once again, Ye spoke, and social media lit up from Instagram to Twitter with a few strong words about his thoughts.

Some experienced a full circle moment, claiming that Ye’s keen interest in the homeless explains the extremely normcore aesthetic of the YEEZY brand. Despite his candid remarks on who inspires him, nothing could have prepared us for the presentation of his latest drop.

The Big Review: Polyend Play is a groovebox so fun you’ll wish you had two

Innovative live sets feel in demand right now. This month alone, a clip of British breakthrough act Fred Again… playing on a Native Instruments Maschine went viral, while UK house producer Elliot Adamson got “bored of DJ’ing” and decided to build a new live set in three days. There’s something about getting hands-on with your music that’s liberating for artists and is engaging for an audience. And Polish manufacturer Polyend is acutely aware of this.

READ MORE: The Big Review: Akai’s MPC Key 61 isn’t perfect but it is inspiring

Polyend’s Play is a fantastically fun groovebox that lets you sequence, shuffle and slice up your sounds. It’s certainly not limited to stage performances – it’s a creative goldmine for building musical ideas and can communicate with up to eight MIDI-equipped external instruments to act as a studio centrepiece. You’ll load sounds into the Play and harness the sequencer, effects engines and sample editing tools to manipulate your sounds.

The Play does have some serious limitations, however. But, as is often the case with music technology, you might be able to benefit from these restrictions in an artistic fashion.

We love the sleek black aesthetic that Polyend has opted for in its product range. The minimalist look of the Play is akin to the brand’s Tracker, released in 2021, both sporting a compact, lightweight and thin design. You’ll power it via USB-C, either with the power supply that Polyend provides, or with a laptop or power bank. This is ideal if you plan on making beats while you’re out and about – or casually laying on your sofa.

Most striking is the layout of the Play. 160 backlit buttons, in a grid of 8×20, allow you to sequence, perform, play, and manipulate the sounds. Such a number sounds daunting – and, at first, it is – but once you become accustomed to the workflow, you realise how effective this system is. Above the grid is the visual display, with five dedicated buttons and an endless rotary knob that you’ll use to navigate parameters, save and load projects, import samples, map MIDI CC, and much more.

Six instruments that put groove at the forefront of music production

Source: https://musictech.com/guides/essential-guide/six-instruments-groove-music-production/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=six-instruments-groove-music-production

You’ve likely heard of ‘groove’ – but what is it? The vague term has been conflated for decades, confusing music students and spiritualists alike. But one thing is certain: groove makes you want to move.

READ MORE: Using retro electronic music techniques for texture and character

Some try to decipher groove through superfluous definitions like, ‘groove is like water flowing down a river. It’s the way it hits the rocks and returns to stream,’ (yeah, thanks). Meanwhile, others manifest groove from a technological standpoint, bridging the gap between groove’s human grounding and the creation of electronic beats.
So how has groove shuffled from being a cryptic musical concept to a commonplace parameter in DAWs, and what electronic instruments do we have to thank for it?

Roland CR-78

Roland CR-78

Released in 1978, Roland’s CR-78 was one of the first mainstream rhythm machines created. Underpinning behemoth beats. Including Phil Colins’ iconic 1981 track In The Air Tonight, the Roland CR-78 has a range of presets, fill options, some pretty dexterous balancing features, and a nice metallic timbre function for tonal blending.

The impressionable invention allowed musicians to store drum patterns for the first time, opening up a whole new world of creative memory and permitting spontaneous rhythmic moments to be captured. But despite its triumphs in paving the way for electronic grooves, the CR-78 ultimately missed the beat – users can’t play their own rhythms. The power of groove in technology was only just starting its journey.

Apart from its presets and loose fills, the CR-78’s drum patterns are fully quantised – completely in time. For most producers, this is an issue. And for those seeking groove, this is detrimental.

What’s crucial about the CR-78, besides the irresistibly cool ‘Rock 2’ preset, is that the inclusion of the drum loops ‘Shuffle’ and ‘Swing’ showed promise; an intention to create a looser style of beat. The term ‘shuffle’ would stick, mostly thanks to one of the most important instrument creators to exist – Roger Linn.
